What's (Permanently) On Celebrities' Wrists?

There is not much more to the lives of celebrities than what the paparazzi and news manage to scope out. Although famous actresses are people just like the rest of us, society has them raised up on a silver platter. This superiority that we create as fans is what has lead us the to constant desire for celebrity gossip. There is coverage of every celebrity wedding, break up, doctor’s appointment, and of course, every trip to the tattoo parlor. The revolving circle between celebrities carrying out average human activities and the media portraying them as unimaginable behaviors, creates the paradigm for what we know as entertainment.
Some decisions in life are much less permanent than others, tattoos, however, are not one of them. When you wake up in the morning and get dressed you may feel that choosing the right accessories is a major life decision. For celebrities, choosing what to wear on their wrists is much easier considering the thousands of dollars in jewelry that grace their closets. It wouldn't be wrong to assume that the wrist accessories that celebrity’s sport would be limited to the typical Cartier bangles or completely unaffordable diamond bracelets. Even with an unlimited supply of jewelry, the growing trend in celebrity wrist accessories has took a major turn towards these more permanent portrayals, tattoos. Eva Longoria, Jessica Alba, Khloe Kardashian, Victoria Beckham and Leighton Meester are just a few examples of very popular celebrities that have taken their accessorizing to a whole other level.

Eva Longoria’s Roman Numerals

Actress Eva Longoria is most well known for her appearance on the popular TV series Desperate Housewives and also her role as the dead ex-fiancé in Over Her Dead Body. Though she is worth millions of dollars, Longoria’s life is not flawless and the media finds a way to capture each imperfection. Her very public marriage to Tony Parker sparked a lot of gossip, essentially in her favor. Sometimes in the world of mass communications even bad PR can be better than no PR. Adding to the public interest of Longoria's life were the flashy roman numerals “VII VII MMVII” spread across her wrist. As a romantic gesture to her, now estranged, husband, Longoria’s tattoo stood for their wedding day, July 7, 2007. As if sporting a tattoo was not enough for the buzz of Hollywood gossip hunters, the removal of her tattoo after her divorce in 2011, put her in the spotlight again.

Jessica Alba’s Sanskrit

The 32-year-old mother of two and actress, Jessica Alba, has much more depth in her life then just looking good with her husband Cash Warren at awards shows. Behind the scenes Jessica Alba is a very spiritual person, closely observing the importance of the faiths Christianity and Buddhism. The symbol tattooed on her wrist is the Sanskrit word for lotus. According to the Buddhist faith, the lotus flower is known to represent beauty and purity. When questioned about her wrist tattoo, Alba sophistically answered, "For me it signifies the manifestation of spiritual beauty," (Instyle Magazine). Although Jessica Alba is also know for her various other tattoos, her wrist tattoo is definitely one of the most significant, primarily because the location is so visible to those around her.

Khloe Kardashian's Cursive

No one knows exactly how the Kardashian-Jenner family became so famous in the entertainment industry, although fingers point to Kris Jenner as a public relations genius. Regardless of where they came from, they are in the spotlight more than most of us want to see them. Khloe Kardashian, the youngest of the three Kardashian sisters, fell into the arms of, current LA Clippers forward, Lamar Odom in 2009. If you have watched the popular show on E!, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, you have probably heard one of the family members mention their web of family ties. A topic that always comes into remembrance among the members of this fast-pace family is Kris Jenner's first husband and father to four of her children, Robert Kardashian. It is said that Khloe found a note from her deceased father and knew that it was her last, first-hand glimpse of her father's love for her. She creatively decided to have his handwriting of "I Love You" from the bottom of the letter transcribed into a tattoo on her wrist. As you can see from her exclusive Khloe Kardashian celeb buzz website, Khloe always makes sure that all of her fans are as educated about her decisions as possible. Now that she has her father's memory on her wrist, she will carry his love with her forever.

Victoria Beckham's Devotion

Victoria Beckham, wife of soccer heart throb David Beckham, wasn't always just the world wide fashion icon that she is today. Most people would be more familiar with her identity as Posh Spice, part of the late 90's pop group the Spice Girls. In 1999, "Posh and Becks" had their own fairytale wedding and the rest has been history. Now surrounded by four children, three boys and one girl, their growing Beckham family seems to be just right. Following suite with her alter ego Posh, Victoria always strives for the essence of classy and feminine even in the design of her many tattoos. Her first stamp of devotion to her husband was the cursive letters "DB", standing for David Beckham, that she tattooed on her left wrist. In May of 2006, the Beckhams renewed their wedding vows and both love birds got the roman numerals VIII-V-MMVI as tattoos in remembrance of that special day. Next in 2007 the Beckham family moved to the US and as a tribute to their fresh start in the states, Victoria added the phrase "De Integro" to her collection. The translation of this latin phrase is along the lines of "again from the start" symbolizing a new beginning for her and her family. The final tattoo on the wrists of Beckham is a Hebrew line meaning, "together, forever, eternally", a reminder of her and her husbands love for their 10th anniversary. Fans of Victoria Beckham and her husband are so impressed with their array of tattoos that there is even a website, "Beckham's Tattoos" that contains anything and everything you ever wanted to know about the couples body art.

Leighton Meester's Flower

Even the innocent Miss Leighton Meester from the teenage soap-style, drama Gossip Girl embellished her wrist with some personality. Before her days as the fashionista, Blair Waldorf, Leighton was featured in a movie called, Remember the Daze. The writer and director, Jess Manafort, became one Leighton's lifetime friends and according to the young actress it was the best movie experience. Before she left North Carolina (the filming location) she was determined to do something that would make her experience on set more than just a passing memory. After always wanting a tattoo she finally decided now would be the perfect time. Her multicolored flower wrist tattoo serves as a reminder of the good friends she made and knows she will always have with her.
