How to Make a Pony Bead Bracelet (for kids)

Arts and crafts make the perfect activity for you and your BFF on a rainy play date, but sometimes coloring can get a little boring. As you run around the playground at recess you might see some of the girls in your class with pretty bracelets on their wrists. Maybe mom, dad, grandma, or grandpa has given you a really special piece of jewelry as a gift before. But have you ever wanted to make your own beaded bracelets? These next few steps will help you create the cutest bracelet ever. And you can tell everyone that you made it!

What you will need:
  1)   Any color string or cord. The best is a stretchy elastic cord.
  2)   Pony beads of any color, shape, and size.
  3)   Scissors (Don’t forget to ask mom and dad for help).

Making the bracelet:
  1)   Pull the string and wrap it once (loosely) around your wrist to see how much you will need. Leaving    extra room to tie the finished bracelet, unwrap the string on your wrist and cut the right amount.
  2)    Before you start to put any beads on the string you need to make sure to tie the very end of one side into multiple knots. This might be the perfect time to ask an older person for help, they are usually experts at tying really good knots.
  3)   After one end of your string is knotted enough so the beads won’t fall off, you can start picking out the beads that you want to show off. If you don’t know where to start, a cute bracelet can be made with a rainbow of colors or two colors switching every other bead.
  4)   Continue to add beads until you are about the length of your pinky away from the other end of string.
  5)   To finish off your bracelet first tie a knot at this end of the bracelet. When this end is tied, you take both knotted ends and again tie them together extra tightly so that you can wear it without it breaking. (An adult can complete this final step for you).
Now that you have made a really cute bracelet, wear it to school and show all of your friends what a great job you did.
